Dutch know-how in the field of heavy-load transportation is encapsulated in this versatile breed of vessels. The 4-vessel programme was entrusted to Merwede by Mammoet Shipping (Big lift at the time) of Amsterdam. The two mast cranes, each of 400 tons with 18 m radius, provide a tandem lift capacity of 800 tons and symbolise the primary purpose of these vessels; the stability of the vessels is such that no external measure like pontoons, outriggers or supports are required during heavy lift operations. The vessels are extremely flexible with a large single hold in which vertical transverse and longitudinal separations as well as tweendecks can easily be fitted by means of special pontoons making the vessels also suitable for bulk cargoes, timber, containers, dangerous goods and general cargoes apart from heavy lift and project cargoes.

The vessel is designed as a full scantling vessel with tween-deck, single screw propulsion and a deckhouse located aft. Main task of the vessel is the transport of project- and heavy lift cargo.
In addition the vessel is equipped for transport of standard containers. 40 plugs for reefer containers are available. The tween-deck hatch covers can be positioned at three different levels and are designed for a distributed load of 3,5 t /m². Two cranes with a150 t SWL each are arranged on port side. In coupled operation modules with a single weight up to 300 t can be handled.
Heel compensation for an efficient cargo handling required during loading operation will be ensured by an automatic anti-heeling-plant with a pump capacity of 500 m³/h.
Additional support to increase stability during loading operations can be reached by a stability pontoon. The pontoon can be fixed alternatively at port or starboard side and allows flexible use. For excellent manoeuvrability the vessel is equipped with a high power flap-rudder and a bow thruster.
The Crew is accommodated in single rooms with private bath cabins, officers have in addition a separate bed room.

NMF’s heavy-lift cranes are built according to the same concept as the container cranes. The crane housing, which contains all of the important power units, is built as a closed, welded steel construction to provide protection against water spray.

GLH heavy lift and multipurpose crane:
- Designed for handling of heavy lift and multipurpose cargoes
Crane type:
GLH electro-hydraulic cranes are self-contained units with all machinery enclosed in the crane house. This protects it from the weather, corrosion and damage. The standard GLH range covers lifting capacities from 120 to 350 tonnes, with outreaches up to 36 m.
General design:
GLH cranes are designed to meet the rules of all recognised classification societies and regulatory bodies. MacGREGOR´s CC2000 system ensures smooth, fast and stepless crane control. Hoisting, luffing and slewing motions are independent of each other. This means that at their maximum capacity GLH cranes can operate at full speed using all three movements at the same time. These cranes can be supplied with the tools needed for handling particular cargoes.

CBW cranes are designed for cargo and container handling and are distinguished through the following characteristics:
Low height enabling improved visibility from the vessel's bridge.
Low weight and centre of gravity for improved ship stability and increased cargo capacity.
Wide rope field at the hook allowing for safe and stable cargo handling (anti-swing device).
Jib arranged above operator's cabin, which provides unrestricted vision for the crane driver to deck and cargo hold.
|
|
The CBS crane is designed for installation on heavy lift vessels a well as multi-purpose vessels providing the following advantages:
Low height allowing for better visibility from the bridge.
Low weight and centre of gravity leading to improved vessel stability and moreover increased cargo capacity.
Due to the special design the CBS crane is especially suited for heavy lifts.
Electronically controlled horizontal load path in luffing operation.
Wide rope field for stabilising the hook ensures safe operation and cargo handling.
