A harness line is attached to each side of a windsurfer's wishbone and hooked to the rider's harness. It transfers the pull of the sail from the arms to the midsection of the body.
ApplicationsThese lines are small but important pieces of gear for windsurfers using a harness, i.e., all those beyond the beginner level.
TechnologiesThese short lengths of rope are protected by a plastic sheath to limit wear from rubbing against the harness hook. There is a fastener at each end, generally Velcro, for attachment to the wishbone. On certain models, the length is adjustable, sometimes even while riding.
How to chooseLine length is the most critical element of choice. If it is too long, the rider will be too far back for comfortable sail adjustment. Too short a line makes it difficult to hook back in after a jibe, a maneuver requiring speed of execution, sometimes on tiptoe. Experience and experimentation will determine the appropriate dimension, which depends on arm length, wishbone shape, sail size and other factors.
