The Turbo Meter provides uncommon accuracy, sensitivity, and pocket-sized convenience. It is based on the principle that a freely turning turbine will rotate at a speed directly proportional to the wind speed. To insure maximum sensitivity and accuracy, the turbine is suspended on sapphire jewel bearings, and its rotation is sensed by an infrared light beam which adds no friction. The resulting signal is processed electronically by an LSI (Large Scale Integrated) circuit for improved reliability and reduced size

For instantaneous wind speed readings, where you need them, when you need them.
Reads wind speed in miles/hour, meters/second, and Beaufort. Readout dial is supported on sapphire jewel bearings and steadied by a rare earth magnetic dampening system. Folding handle quickly and securely latches into place. No batteries needed. Dimensions: 3-5/8" × 2-7/8" × 1" (92 × 73 × 25 mm) with handle folded. Weight: 2.5 oz (71 g). Measures wind speed from 0 - 60 mph.

Here's the one that started it all! We developed the Kestrel 1000 Pocket Wind Meter in 1995 when NK co-owner, Richard Kellerman, needed a reliable wind meter for flying his glider. Over 10 years later, it looks a little slicker, and it still gives you the reliable, accurate wind measurements that you need.
Every Kestrel Meter features a large, 1" impeller mounted on a sapphire jewel bearing, which means it starts rotating with the slightest puff of air - 0.3 mph to be exact! And this unique impeller is user-replaceable, too, which means it can easily be replaced if it is damaged or worn.
If your application demands regular calibration, simply pop in a new impeller and the Kestrel Wind Meter is restored to like-new factory calibration standards. The Kestrel 1000 can easily be switched between mph, km/h, ft/min, m/s, knots and Beaufort.
