How to choose this product

A floating dam is an anti-pollution device designed to block and contain petroleum products and other pollutants in an enclosed space.

Applications

These devices are used to counter environmental threats such as oil spills. They can be deployed preventively in protected areas or when a ship discharges polluting material in port. They can also serve to circumscribe an area where there will be potentially polluting work on boats, pontoons, bridges, gangways or other structures. This can include painting, tarring or similar tasks.

Technologies

Rigid or inflatable chambers provide buoyancy. The dam is generally unrolled in a line around the confinement zone by a specialized vessel. Some have hydrocarbon absorption pads which must be replaced after use. There are both stationary and mobile models.

Some are intended for use in calm waters, while others are designed for rougher areas or zones of great tidal variation. Fireproof versions can be deployed to fight petroleum spill fires.

How to choose

Choose a rigid unit for permanent dams and an inflatable model for temporary installations. Some floating dams can be deployed with a pneumatic canon. This is fast and efficient, but requires specialized equipment.
