HI-FOG uses a combination of cooling and oxygen depletion to control, suppress and extinguish fires. By attacking two of the three elements needed for a sustained fire (heat, oxygen and fuel), HI-FOG is efficient for any shipboard application.
Machinery spaces
In machinery spaces, a dry pipe deluge type system is used. The activation is automatic or manual, depending on the application and corresponding regulatory requirements. As HI-FOG is harmless to human beings, activation by mistake or "just in case" will not cause any harm.
The HI-FOG total flooding systems are fully approved to be used in place of systems such as CO2 or foam, and offer the added benefit of immediate activation and post-fire cooling.
The HI-FOG local application systems have been designed and approved in accordance with the regulations for such systems, but have repeatedly shown that they can extinguish engine room fires on their own, without the activation of the total flooding system.
The HI-FOG total flooding and local application systems can be combined into one single integrated system, with corresponding savings in costs and maintenance.
