|
The basic design
The D6 is a 6-cylinder marine diesel engine with common rail high-pressure fuel injection, double overhead camshafts, 4 valves per cylinder, turbocharger and aftercooler. The displacement is 5.5 litres. It is extremely compact considering its large swept volume, high output and unique marine torque. Together with a large swept volume and the EVC system (Electronic Vessel Control), this results in world-class diesel performance, combined with low emissions.

A clean sheet diesel developed just for marine application, the Volvo Penta IPS 600 propulsion system will forever change the leisure boating experience. There is an ever-increasing demand for higher speed, improved handling, enhanced onboard comfort and reduced emissions. Buyers of sports cruisers, sport fishing, flybridge yachts and other craft with traditional inboard propulsion want speeds well above 30 knots. But this is where the efficiency of conventional shaft installations really starts to drop. Something new is required to combine performance with driving pleasure, onboard comfort and reliability with good environmental properties.

The D9 in-line 6 diesel is developed from the latest design in modern diesel technology. Electronically controlled unit injectors 4-valve technology and electronically controlled unit injectors, working at pressures up to 1,800 bar, produce a good fuel-to-air ratio at any load condition. The 4-valve technology also helps ensure the efficient flow of gas.

The Barracuda is a true naturally aspirated diesel engine and with it's 6.5 liters and 170hp the engine that will take you twice around the world and back without hesitating.
A Barracuda that is serviced regulary is almost indestructible and has the power and performance of a 230hp gasoline V8.

Wilh 4 valves per cylinder, the BY range's dual air intake ports provide an optimised fuel/air mix that results in high torque across the power band and further improves engine efficiency. The Electronic Control Unit (ECU) managed second-generation common rail fuel injection also gives outstanding fuel economy.

This is the first engine in our supercharged model program designed for outstanding performance and durability. This dynamic engine is perfect for the medium performance pleasure boat and has all the benefits of its big brother in the Hammerhead series - but at a lower cost. All Stingray engines are fitted with the High Performance Stanadyne Marine DB4 mechanical fuel injection pump.

Stepping up to the Hammerhead series, which is designed for maximum in performance, looks and durability. This engine will outperform most Bigblock gasoline V8's and at the same time leave you fuel for another day at sea. The Hammerhead Series is DieselPower at it's best. All Hammerhead engines are fitted with the High Performance Stanadyne Marine DB4 mechanical fuel injection pump.

After years of development Marine Power proudly introduced its new line of diesels in 1992. Like all Marine Power engines, the diesels quickly made believers out of even the most discriminating commercial and sport fisherman skippers around.
Lightweight, compact, powerful, efficient, dependable and surprisingly affordable, the Marine Power 6.5 Diesels bring traditional diesel reliability with extraordinarily low fuel consumption to pleasure and work boats in the 25 to 35 ft. class.

The design evolution within Yanmar's technology creates engines which not only perform, but also last and last. That's our mission. This has led to a worldwide reputation for unsurpassed reliability. These engines are the most compact and powerful in their class. The 24-valve overhead cam valve train is the main driver of this success. And, not to forget, the water cooled wastegated turbocharger, intercooler and fuel cooler, which maintain peak performance.
