Alphena Three planned for the end 2010 beginning 2011
Alphena Yachts work with the design of Alphena Three. Genuine loft-yacht, Alphena Three will take again the same principles of efficiency, performance, comfort and design that Alphena One, but those will be extended to an interior adapted to a modern navigation over several days. For this reason, the building site currently seeks the customer "pilot" who will profit from advantageous conditions to adapt ahead first this future unit of exception.

The hull is built in sandwich with carbon-fibreglass laminated with vinyl-epoxy resin.
The manual lamination is completed with following treatment vacuum consolidated in three phases: external skin, internal skin, and then, post cured.
The core is CORE-CELL, a linear structural foam, vacuum bagged to obtain maximum bonding.
The lamination of the keel box, lower rudder bearing, and near the engine sail drive is single skin.
The position and dimension of hull beams are designed to obtain the best compromise between weight and stiffness; the bulkheads and cabinets are included in the hull/deck structure.
Particular care has been given to the shrouds chain plates, which are bolted on deck, while two beams on hull guarantee an optimal dissipation of loads.
The hull/deck joint is provided by structural bondage and extra carbon/fibreglass lamination.

Designed by Botin and Carkeek, the Grand Soleil 46 is a fast cruiser which has achieved a perfect balance between performance, manageability and timeless design. Fast, safe, comfortable and easy to helm and sail, even with a small crew, this boat is also competitive on the race-track and has been optimised for IRC.
The GS46 is the first Grand Soleil to have been built using the infusion method which is employed in order to maximise the stiffness of the boat whilst keeping the weight down. The T-shaped bulb keel has been developed from experience gained in the Americas Cup and in the TP52 fleets.
The standard boat features three cabins and two heads but every Grand Soleil 46 is special because it is unique and each owner can personalise their boat, choosing the solutions they prefer below decks. She is fitted with a Volvo D” 55hp engine with S drive.

Sydney yachts developed the Cruiser Racer (CR) range to meet the increasing market demand for speed and comfort. The Sydney 47CR provides a superb level of interior finish but does not compromise on performance.
The Sydney 47CR is the largest of this range and provides a high level of comfort to meet the cruising needs of its owners. The main saloon includes a traditional style dinette with myrtle table to port and a starboard seating area that can quickly transform into a navigational area. The hull windows provide an abundance of natural light in the main saloon with outside views from the settee. The generous galley area is finished with Corian® bench tops. The furnishings provide a luxurious feel and there is ample storage space throughout.
On the race course the wolf emerges from the sheep's clothing. The custom dual steering system with feature wheels allows excellent visibility for the steerer at all times with the advantage of easy access through to the transom for boarding. The provision of a modern swept back spreader rig makes sailing easier and if required the yacht can be customised for short handed sailing with motorised winches, furlers, autopilots and specialised sail handling controls. The large cockpit area increases the appeal of this new design and is in direct contrast to the traditional cruising yacht cockpit, which is usually quite restrictive.

The Firsts are out in force!
6 Bénéteau Firsts are competing in the event, three of them from the core French teams led by Géry Trentesaux, skipper of the First 45 Lady Courrier.
Sailing conditions in the Solent have been exceptional since the start of the competition on Monday, with sunshine and wind for this legendary race which draws together 45 boats representing 6 nations.
Following two days of upwind-downwind inshore racing, the First 45 Lady Courrier took three of the four legs, giving the French team France Bleue (to which it belongs) second position overall in the provisional rankings.
Wednesday will see the crews set sail for the offshore race. The competition finishes on Sunday 6th July, which still gives plenty of opportunities for the 3 French teams to improve their ranking.

Particularly well suited for hosting guests, there is ample space below decks, where the sporty and practical exterior gives way to a warm and welcoming cabin space, elegant and refined down to the smallest detail.
The GS50 has three cabins and two heads as standard, but there is also the possibility of a fourth cabin on the starboard side. She is fitted with a Volvo 55hp engine.

The S1 Wheel Pilot is the successor to the popular ST4000 Plus Wheel drive system. The new S1 system uses the versatile ST6002 control head combined with the S1 SmartPilot course computer for maximum performance. Permanently installed and fully enclosed, this is a drive system that delivers the convenience and performance of an inboard autopilot. Gone are the obstructive and untidy belts and wires of conventional wheel autopilots.
The S1 Wheel pilot system is a patented solution that gives you a wheel drive that you can engage or disengage at the kick of a lever. A rear-mounted plug enables the drive unit to be detached for service or security reasons, without disturbing the wiring harness.

The rugged CPT is a cost effective crew member that steers your vessel so that you can take your hands off the wheel, whether motoring or sailing. This cockpit wheel pilot is easy to install and operate.
Strong and Dependable
The CPT is constructed ruggedly for a long life in the marine environment. It uses a gimballed optical compass, capable of operating at up to 45 degrees of tilt with no loss in accuracy. The CPT sensor responds quickly and works reliably in the cockpit.
The strength of the CPT comes from the size of its motor and gearing. The robust motor of the CPT produces high torque and rpm at the wheel, allowing it to respond fast with torque to spare. Because of the speed of its motor, the CPT can handle large boats with hydraulic steering, which can have many turns lock to lock.

When a direct link from the rudder to the pedestal via a rack and pinion system isn't possible, the best, most direct and strong mechanical steering system to go for is the Jefa transmission steering system. The transmission steering is based on the same principals as the rack and pinion system; the rotation of the wheel is transferred to a push pull movement via a gearbox and levers. The difference with the rack and pinion system is that the distance from the wheel to the rudder shaft can be much bigger and the routing more complex. Via torque tubes, universal joints, and bevel gearboxes, the rotating movement is transmitted to the reduction gearbox next to the rudder shaft. The reduction gearbox transfers the rotating movement into a push and pull movement on the tiller lever. As all rotating parts are running in roller bearings, and the system can be easily back driven by the rudder, the result is a steering system which can be far away from the rudder, but with the same precision and feel as a tiller steered boat.
