These devices are commonly found at ports used by large ships such as container and Ro-Ro terminals and offshore oil platforms.
Such fenders are shaped like a truncated cone. They are made of rubber components with specific compression characteristics. The base has holes for attachment to the dock. The outer ends hold a panel to increase the surface area contacting the ship's sides.
Size and number of cone fenders will be determined by the dimensions of the ships using the dock.
