Originally, the Admiraal sloop was used to take the officers to shore, often cutting through the waves. This beautifully streamlined boat, with a length of 6.75m, a somewhat raised stem and a lovely curvature, is never bothered by spray.
For the Admiraal sloop, just as for the Dutch barge and the Pêcheur, the boat’s character is defined by its stability; it is shallow, very manoeuvrable, with limited headroom and a cockpit more than deep enough to seat 8 to 10 people. Just as with the other Makma models, there is a choice of engines, which are attached to a steel frame. The major advantage of this is that in 30 years’ time the boat will vibrate just as little as it did on its first day.
Like the other models, this boat can be supplied with a chemical toilet or underwater closet. The sloop has lots of storage space under the afterdeck and the closed foredeck. The gunwale as well as the side board, floors and mouldings can be optionally finished in teak. The Admiraal is supplied with a spray hood that can be dropped down with a movement of the hand. It is then positioned on the foredeck so that people can sit very comfortably on the benches fore, out of the wind or spread out.
The boat is equipped with an elegantly hung rudder with teak side-pieces. An acute turning curve makes manoeuvring easier; especially handy when in a harbour. The elegantly sloping sheer creates a very comfortable back rest. A washbasin or water-tap can also be included; always handy if you need to have a quick wash-up during a long trip.
As far as woodwork is concerned, everything is possible. The sky is the limit.

The Pêcheur is derived from a Danish open coaster (comparable to the old Ameland rescue barge) with original dimensions of 12 x 4.30 m. These boats are still regularly seen at sea. However, given their age, nowadays they are used more often as “fishermen”, or Pêcheurs.
This boat, which Makma has reduced to scale, is really worth seeing, including the railing that has been retained above the decorative cockpit. And the boat is still clinker-built – we might almost say ‘of course’ – as a result of which the lovely sheer is emphasised that little bit more.
This sloop was modernised in 2004 and can be supplied with a small (optional) pantry with a wash-basin and gas hob. The benches fore have been lowered somewhat so that you can also sit outside – out of the wind – in colder weather.
Makma can supply this boat with lots of options, such as a bowsprit, refrigerator or an extra table fore.
Needless to say, with this model too the fore seating can be converted into a sun-bed and is therefore also extremely suitable as an overnight berth. Thanks to the lowered benches, you have even more privacy and you can sunbathe as much as you want out of the wind. Thanks to the lowered floor, people who are not too tall can even stand under the hood. The sloop can fit a large group of people.
The Pêcheur has an elegantly hung rudder. The broad gangways make it easy to board and are also handy when mooring in locks or in other tricky situations.

The classic Dutch barge is the first Makma product. This 7-metre long boat has a generous width of 2.65 m. These exceptional dimensions are one of the reasons why this boat was being rowed around the Zuiderzee as far back as 100 years ago. Equally exceptional stability also contributes to the comfort of this boat. Just as in the Pêcheur and the Admiraal sloop, there is more than enough room for four people to sit behind the wheel.
The Dutch barge is the ideal family boat: it is safe for small children because “the self-draining cockpit” is nice and deep. Water, including rainwater, drains off automatically, so you don’t need a pump. The boat fits around 8 to 10 people. The inspection certificate specifies that eight adults can stand on one side without a drop of water getting into the boat! This just shows how stable this boat really is.
The seats, which slope backward like a sofa, increase the seating comfort in this model. The U-shaped sofa in the front of the boat is around 10 centimetres lower than usual so that tall people can also sit up straight of they wish. On all sides, the spacious seats give good back support. The motor in the Dutch barge is located in a special compartment so that the noise level is kept to the absolute minimum.
Thanks to the unbroken keel under the boat, this Makma type also keeps on course and, in combination with a small draught, it means you can sail the boat almost everywhere. The Dutch barge also has large storage space fore and aft under the deck and also in the seats. So there is enough space for a cool-box or folding bicycle.

| Our Orient sloop is made of mahogany specially selected for Makma, but it is also available in teak. However, most of the boats in this series are made of fibreglass. They are built under Dutch supervision and arrive as semi-manufactured vessels at our wharf in Leiden, where the construction tasks are completed. As with our other types of ships, our customers like to keep track of the way their ship is being built. And we at Makma think it’s great when you drop along to see how the work is progressing: “What you see is what you get!” As is the case with all Makma boats, the Orient series has a 5-year guarantee on the submerged parts and 2-year guarantee on the engine. |
