Open boats are simple craft featuring, at minimum, a steering console. Larger models or ones with substantial freeboard may have a sleep-in cabin.
An open boat with a cabin allows several people to enjoy the fresh air, while the cabin provides accommodations for weekend boating.
An open boat is one without a deck. Above a certain size, some offer the advantages of open craft while also providing the shelter of a cabin beneath a foredeck. A slightly-elevated sundeck and access via the console also allow for a cabin. Thus, there are several ways to create cabin space on such craft while preserving its open character.
