Boat roll bars are rigid arches for for mounting gear requiring an elevated position.
ApplicationsThese structures are used on craft lacking other options for mounting certain types of equipment. They are often found on rigid inflatables and other powerboats, and are sometimes used on sailboats to hold solar panels and other gear.
TechnologiesRoll bars consist of curved, welded metal tubes, composite materials, laminated fiberglass or carbon. They are usually bolted to the deck. The aft end is streamlined for aerodynamic and aesthetic reasons. They must be high enough to allow people to pass safely below. The roll bar can hold GPS or VHF radio antennas, solar panels, wind turbines, navigation lights, spotlights, buoys, loudspeakers or a Bimini top to shade the cockpit.
How to chooseCheck the dimensions of the installation area and determine the fastening method. It is often necessary to put a back plate on the underside of the deck to reinforce the structure and absorb stress. Some accessories require cables running within the roll bar. Verify that the manufacturer makes provision for this option.
