A boat pump is a mechanical device for fluid transfer. The various types include bilge, engine oil, hydraulic and others.
Whether to pump dry the bilge, supply fresh water to faucets, evacuate head or shower water, ensure circulation of engine fluids, or transfer fuel or ballast water between tanks, such pumps serve a wide variety of functions aboard both recreational and professional vessels.
Pump functions and operating systems vary widely. Common models include diaphragm, vacuum, centrifugal, reversible, automatic, maceration (for a head), high- and low-pressure pumps. They can be manual, electric or hydro-electric. Output is generally indicated in liters per hour.
Choice will depend on the pump's function, pipe diameter, required output and power source, whether manual or 12-, 24- or 220-volt electric.
