The Northern Lights M673L3 is everything you want in a generator set, and nothing you don't. At 6.0 kW (5.0 kW for 50 Hz applications), it's the right size -- big enough to run many shipboard items and start sizeable motors, yet small enough to fit into tight engine rooms.
The M673L3 runs at 1800 rpm (60 Hz), not 3600 like sets built to a slightly smaller envelope or to a slightly smaller price. That slower speed means quiet, smooth operation and much less stress on the engine. During 2000 hours of operation, the M673L2 will turn over 216 million fewer revolutions; its pistons will travel 43,337 fewer miles; and its cylinders will withstand 108 million fewer detonations. Now, which engine do you think will last longer? So do we.

Ask to see most company's 5kW marine generator sets, and you'll likely see a light, fairly disposable machine, seemingly built as an afterthought.
Not Northern Lights. Our 5kW M673LD3 is built with the careful engineering and meticulously craftsmanship that has defined every Northern Lights product for over four decades.
Northern Lights starts with a heavy duty base engine. Then our unique marinization process creates a machine specifically designed for the unforgiving rigors of the marine environment. Adding a sturdy generator end creates the most reliable, durable and simple to use marine power solution on the market.
The M673LD3 is designed for unmatched reliability. By achieving 5 kilowatts at 1800, instead of 3600 rpm, the revolutions are cut in half. Piston and cylinder wear is minimized.
|
|
The M773LW3 incorporates the best Northern Lights features into one compact and versatile package. It meets growing onboard power demands without asking for a lot of engine room space.
The M773LW3 was engineered to deliver its power at a quiet, long lasting 1800 rpm. Driven by a high-torque, 69 cubic inch, Lugger diesel and fitted with a powerful W-Series generator end, the M773LW3 has the power to start electric motors with ease.
Like all Northern Lights, simplicity and longevity are the focal points. Hoses and belts have been eliminated wherever possible. The closed crankcase vent system traps oil vapor emissions keeping the engine room, and environment, cleaner.
The M773LW3 features single-side service, which means it can be mounted with the non-service side facing a bulkhead without hindering routine service access.

These are the powerhouses that go in vessels that need continuous AC power to operate. Unfortunately, some 20 kW machines have small displacement, light duty diesels that can't stand up to heavy use. Some even need turbochargers to compensate for their small displacement.
The M844LW3 is different. Powered by a naturally aspirated, four cylinder, 2.2 liter (135 cid) Lugger diesel, this set has the low end torque needed to start bigger electric motors without breaking a sweat.
The M844LW3 meets US EPA Tier III emission standards to protect the environment you enjoy.
Vibration isolation mounts, air intake silencer and cast manifolds make the set remarkably smooth and quiet. A high attenuation sound enclosure is optional.

A vessel that needs 16 to 20 kW is large enough that continuous power is critical to its operation. Unfortunately, most sets in this range have small displacement, light duty diesels that can't stand up to heavy use. Some even need turbochargers to compensate for their small displacement.
The M844W3 is different. Powered by a naturally aspirated, four cylinder diesel, this set has the low end torque needed to start big electric motors. Yet it weighs under 900 pounds and is compact in size. The M844W3 meets US EPA Tier III emission standards protecting the environment you enjoy.
|
|
The M843NW3 is small in size but not in heart.
The M843NW3 comes with all the time-tested features you expect on a Northern Lights. A simple, reliable cooling system that minimizes belts, hoses and gaskets. A relay based DC electrical system without expensive printed circuit boards. Single side service accessibility. Crankcase oil vapor trap system and welded drip pan base to keep your engine room as clean as the 843's white polyurethane paint job.
The 843 also plays well with others. Team it up with a larger Northern Lights set. The 843 will shoulder the light load hours and let its big buddy take a rest. Since it only uses 0.62 gph of fuel at half load it will rest your wallet too.
|
|
The M864W3 combines ample power, long life features, and low emissions owners expect from a Northern Lights.
Exceptionally smooth, quiet and clean, it makes life aboard comfortable while protecting the environment. The 2.5 liter Lugger diesel has been designed for clean exhaust and meets the US EPA Tier III emission requirements.
Noise is reduced at the design stage with several features. A laminated oil pan and an isolated rocker arm cover contain the noise at its source. A noise maze air intake silencer lowers noise while isolation mounts limit transmission of vibration to the vessel. For even more comfort specify a super attenuated, powder coated sound enclosure.

A big power producer in a little package, the Northern Lights M944W3 is ideal for the boater who expects unqualified excellence from his generator set without sacrificing valuable engine room space.
Cranking out 30 kW at 60 Hz (1800 rpm), the M944W3 is intended for long life at full load. At more then 3.33 liters, this four cylinder dynamo has the displacement (203 cid) to shoulder the large loads. The generator is driven by a reliable Lugger engine, drawing its strength from an industrial block designed for 2500 max rpm; not the 3600 rpm automotive engine common in the industry. That is the reason that the M944W3 hits the top of its torque curve at 1800 rpm instead of sliding down the back of it.

The Northern Lights M944T is the new industry leader in power density in the 32-40kW range.
Producing a conservatively-rated 38kW at 60 Hz (1800 RPM), or 32kW at 50 Hz (1500 RPM), the M944T is based on a heavy-duty industrial block engine and custom marinized for optimal marine performance.
The cast iron, two-pass exhaust manifold promotes even temperature control and is formed of sturdy cast iron. The cupro-nickel heat exchanger is built with removable end caps for easy cleaning. The gear driven seawater pump is self-contained with no unreliable belts. The turbo charger is fresh water cooled for safety.
All systems on the M944T are designed to provide reliable power production in a small space. At 38kW, the M944T is smaller than some competitors’ 32. And because power is produced at a low 1800 RPM, engine wear is dramatically reduced.
Easily customizable, the M944T is an ideal set for increased power in the footprint of 25-33kW machine. Further maximizing engine room, is Northern Lights’ exclusive new base frame and sound enclosure configuration (see table on back). Add custom panels, mufflers or even a front PTO to power your winches, bow thrusters or deck gear. The M944T meets all current emission standards, providing clean and quiet power production.
All the reliability, durability and simplicity that has made Northern Lights the industry leader for five decades are on display in the M944T.

Initially designed for Alaskan fisherman, Luggers are well known by commercial and pleasure craft operators for their long life and smooth, quiet operation.
The L1064T1 features a mechanical fuel delivery system and liquid cooled turbocharger for enhanced fuel effeciency. Ideal fo rthe commercial operator who runs full-throttle for long periods, the L1064T1 is designed for long hours and simplified maintenance.
All the 1064 diesel engines are US EPA Tier II compliant with an in-line design tht makes them perfect repower engines for older in-line six cylinder machines.
The Lugger 1064 (106 mm bore-4 cylinder), 4.5 liter, diesels have heavy-duty tractor blocks. This high torque design provides a strong foundation; but a marine engine is only as good as its marinization. A Lugger's marinization is cast iron tough. The expansion tank and liquid-cooled exhaust manifold are cast iron. Some engines only use bypass water to cool their manifolds. Lugger integrates the two pass manifold into the cooling system main stream to assure even temperature control and to eliminate hot spots that can stress metal components.
