Your suggestions for improvement:
A boat anchor is a heavy piece of gear which grabs onto the seabed when thrown overboard from the vessel, preventing it from drifting. The models offered on NauticExpo are intended for use on recreational/pleasure craft.
ApplicationsAnchors are indispensable on all types of boat. They can prevent grounding or shipwreck in case of engine failure or allow boaters to spend a quiet night anchored in an inlet or port.
TechnologiesAnchor technologies and patented configurations are too numerous to present a complete list. The most common are FOB anchors, spade, Bruce, Danforth, CQR, stock anchors, grapnels and light anchors. Most are made of galvanized steel, stainless steel or aluminum, the last for lighter models.
How to chooseFolding grapnels stow easily and offer secure, rapid mooring, making them fine for the small boats like dinghies, rowboats and beach craft. Larger vessels require heavier anchors and complete mooring tackle of chain and line. Model choice depends on the type of seabed likely to be encountered. Some work well on sand and muddy bottoms, others on rocks and yet others for vegetation.
Having two sets of ground tackle aboard is always a good idea. When single-handing, especially without a windlass, a light anchor may be the best option. Each country has its own regulations, which should be consulted.
