A bay boat is a sport-fishing craft resembling a center console boat with little freeboard. The name comes from North America, where such craft are popular.
Unlike the V hulls of open console boats, these vessels have a flat bottom or one resembling a flattened V. This enables them to enter the shallow waters of marshes or small rivers. Many have swivel chairs, an electric motor at the bow for trolling and fish wells.
Such craft represent a compromise between bass boats, very low and suitable only for calm waters, and console boats with substantial freeboard and an open deck.
