Your suggestions for improvement:
A barbecue is used to grill foods over charcoal, an electric element or a gas burner.
ApplicationsThese devices are found primarily on recreational craft, whether designed for day outings or offshore cruising.
TechnologiesBarbecues can be hung from a pulpit rail or other deck structure such that they represent no fire danger to the vessel from flashback or flying embers. Some have covers which can be closed rapidly in case of gusty winds.
Electric models cook food placed on the grill using a 220 V resistance element. They can be used only in port or on vessels with a generator set. Charcoal barbecues are of the familiar home variety. They should be used only on deck, preferably hung outboard from a leeward rail. Gas versions also constitute a significant fire hazard and should only be used on deck. They usually run on propane or butane.
Some barbecues cook food over stones heated by electricity or gas.
Choice depends primarily on heat source. While electricity offers certain safety advantages, it consumes large amounts of power and can be used only in certain conditions. Gas has the advantage of being available almost everywhere and is less dangerous than charcoal, which can burst, sending embers flying.
