As boats get bigger and headstays longer, both easy adjustment and accurate backstay tension become increasingly important. The solution to this is hydraulics.
A hydraulically controlled backstay permits quick adjustment of headstay sag and marine mast bend which can make boats sail faster, point higher and make furling and reefing much easier.

SAILTEC has designed its cylinders to be reliable, long lasting and efficient. SAILTEC has done this by using high strength aluminum alloys and advanced manufacturing techniques. SAILTEC also uses Molyguard bearing on the piston and the upper end to insure cylinder and piston rod scoring does not occur while under side load.

Selden backstay tensioners have smooth, clean surfaces. Even the wire marine terminal is fully covered. These low-weight backstay tensioners are simple to use. All you do is insert a standard winch for boat handle and turn. The tensioner has a maximum working load of 30 kN. The stroke is an ample 250 or 400 mm, depending on the length of the tensioner.

| On boat sailboats the backstay adjuster enables the crew to precisely adjust and control the forestay tension. Control equates with optimum performance of foresail and guarantees smooth operation of a furling system. When not under sail, the backstay adjuster permits the release of tension on the rig, helping to prolong the life of the riggings and fittings. Two versions of the smaller size are available - one with a wheel, another with a folding handle wich works like a ratchet for precise and frequent adjustements. The larger size is made with integrated ratchet system which is strong, quick and easy to use. |
